Location Spotlight: The Pan Tree
The Pan Tree has agreed to be a CSA location again this year and we’re so excited to have them as a continuing part of our CSA community! One of our favourite things about The Pan Tree is the cooking courses they run on Thursdays. A few weeks ago we stopped by to chat with owners Natalie and Cathy, take some photos and learn a little about making tapas with Chef Richard Toll.Q. Tell us about yourself! A. We are located at 220 Lakeland Dr., unit 550 in Sherwood Park, AB, just North of Millenium Place leisure center. We opened our doors for business in September 2012. We specialize in equipping kitchens with quality kitchenware, from knives and gadgets to cookware and bake ware, for home cooks, aspiring chefs and the restaurant industry. We have an in-store demo kitchen where we host cooking classes, demonstrations and private functions. Our store hours are 10am-6pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-7pm, Thursdays and 10am-5pm, Saturdays. Q. Tell us something we don’t know about you or something we wouldn’t expect about you, your staff or your work. A. We have another business called Baskets in the Park. Baskets in the Park originated as a gift basket business providing gift baskets to corporate clients. In 2006 we brought in the Pandora line of jewelry and since then our front end retail space has morphed into specializing in ladies accessories and jewelry. We have maintained our gift basket business which operates in the back of our retail space and expanded our ladies accessories to include a Pandora shop-in-shop. Q. What do you offer that pairs best with CSA veggies and what is your favourite CSA veggie? A. Products to cook veggies in! Sauté, stew, braise, fry, pressure cook, steam, you name it, we have something to cook your veggies in! My favorite CSA veggie is cauliflower. I love the different color varieties. My favorite way to prepare it is pressure cooked and mashed with lots of smoked cheddar! Q. What led you to partner with Riverbend Gardens CSA? A. Twitter brought us together. It was a natural fit. Plus I want to support local business and wanted to bring CSA to Sherwood Park. Q. How many seasons have you partnered with Riverbend Gardens CSA? A. This will be our second year. We are thrilled to be involved again! Q. Why is it important to you to be a part of the Riverbend Gardens CSA? A. Because I want to support local. Supporting local equates to so many positives. Ensuring our dollar stays within our economy and supporting our local farmers and producers. Reducing our carbon footprint by reducing the distance our food travels. Creating jobs within our own communities.
