Love the bean you’re with.

Beans are the best.

Here at Riverbend, the appearance of beans means that summer is in full swing. We grow three varieties of beans and we love them all. Beans have a (relatively) short season so love them while they’re here!

Green Beans

These beans are the most common bean variety we grow and can be found under a number of different pseudonyms: string beans, snap beans, etc. They may be your average bean variety, but they’re also known as one of the world’s healthiest foods.

Yellow Wax Beans

Also no stranger to the bean line up, yellow beans both look and taste similar to their green cousins. A little known fact about this guy is that though they’re native to central and south America, it is the single most responsible bean for catalysing the popularity of the wax bean in the 20th century!

Purple Beans

These richly coloured beauties look exotic and when you snap them open and you’ll find beautiful green flesh inside. Their flavour is similar to their green and yellow friends but they have a bit more rigidity which means they stand up well to pickling and preserving. Be warned, once they’re cooked, they turn a glowing green hue.

Beans Facts

High in vitamins A, B, C & K they also are high in carotenoids and antioxidants. To get the most nutritional value out of your fresh green beans, steam them with a little bit of seasoning. That is, if you can wait for them to cook for a few minutes. Most of our beans are consumed raw, straight from the plant.
